The One Percent Rule stipulates that one percent of the total cost for constructions, conversions and extensions shall be devoted to artistic decoration. The rule was implemented by the politicians of Stockholm as early as 1963.
"At least one percent," we, at Stockholm konst, say. And we are happy to explain why the One Percent Rule is such a great idea.
Public art - which is accessible to everyone - is part of our democratic society. All the people of Stockholm, regardless of who they are or how they live, should have the opportunity to experience art in their immediate environment.
For this reason it is both a pleasure and an obligation for Stockholm konst to inform municipal agencies, administrations and constructors of the One Percent Rule.
What it means is that a small part of the construction budget is transformed into the best available art for the people of Stockholm. And at the same time, the client has everything to gain from his or her art investment.
In order to utilise the One Percent Rule, the client is not required to know anything about art or how to commission art. Stockholm konst manages every detail of every One Percent project including the inauguration of the new work or the decoration.
Every client who collaborates with Stockholm konst is assigned the One Percent symbol, which is a sign of quality that shows that the client adheres to the One Percent Rule. In short, it is a symbol to be proud of. And last but not least, it provides an entry to the competition for the distinction "The One Percenter of the Year".
